Insuring the Engagement Ring

Ask Questions.
Insurance coverage and cost varies widely with the company and policy. Be sure to ask your insurance agent specific questions about how and if your engagement ring is covered by your policy. Here are some important questions to ask:

Is my engagement ring covered if I lose it?
What is my deductible, and if I raise or lower it, how will that affect my premium?
Do I need an appraisal for my engagement ring to be covered?
If my engagement ring is stolen, will I replace the ring or receive a cash payout?

Things to consider.
If you have to file a claim for a lost, damaged or stolen engagement ring, you may be asked to prove its previous value or condition. Keep updated photographs and current appraisal values in a location away from your ring. A safety deposit box is a good location.
